The client:

The company is a global technology leader in Poly Lactic Acid (PLA). PLA is a versatile, biobased and biodegradable polymer made from annually renewable resources. PLA offers a reduced carbon footprint versus many traditional plastics and can be used in a wide range of markets and applications. They are a young and fast-growing company with a factory in Asia.

Primary role:

Develop and make available the product portfolio that will enable the company to successfully grow its business.  “Make sure the products we need to accomplish our strategy are available and sustainably profitable today, tomorrow and in the future”

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Product Portfolio Management-
⦁ Develop and execute product strategies (portfolio management, positioning, new product development, market intelligence) in line with global business strategies. Support ideation process to shape the innovation pipeline for new products and platforms. Exploring and supporting the “end of life” options for PLA are part of the product strategy.
⦁ Understand Product Market Combinations and proactively assess our product portfolio and product documentation against customer requirements and market dynamics. Responsible for product specifications.
⦁ Manage the operational aspects within the relevant portfolio, including new product introductions, product changes, product rationalizations, product quality issue resolution and product related documentation.
⦁ Provide analyses to help the team to set and align on the focus market segments.
⦁ Lead the discussions around product, market segment & regional profitability, provide tools and analyses to provide insight into price – volume – margin development. Provide suggestions for product pricing strategies.

Project Management-
⦁ Work with the segment teams to steer the segment growth.
⦁ Lead and manage the execution of selected projects via the stage gate process, including contacts to key validation partners, planning, budget and reporting to top management.
⦁ Responsible for the process to monitor complaints – in collaboration with QA/QC/SC.
⦁ Works with regulatory affairs to organize product related info and documentation.

 

Market / Competitive Intelligence-
⦁ Responsible for maintaining a consolidated overview of the competitive landscape; using the intelligence to come to well-articulated insights and specific recommendations.

Internal Relationships-
⦁ Represent and connect the business with the internal organization: through interaction and collaboration with adjacent functional areas (sales, R&D, QA/QC, public affairs, regulatory, supply chain, operations) to ensure commitment from those functions to execute the defined PLA portfolio strategy
⦁ Train our commercial team on all aspects of our portfolio, the PMC’s and our value proposition.

Segment coordination role-
⦁Market Segment Coordinator for a selected market segment.

Person Profile:

⦁ MSc or BSc within marketing/business administration and/or technical/polymer science/chemistry
⦁ Minimum 10 years’ experience in marketing, product management, business support or sales
⦁ Experience in plastics industry
⦁ Balance of commercial, supply chain and technical know-how, skills, affinity and experience
⦁ Multidisciplinary – ability to bridge across functions, ability to get commitments from various other functional departments
⦁ Ability to analyse complex situations (where not all data is known) and define a course of action
