The Company:

Our client is a medium-sized market leading multinational company, who is a part of a Group which generates around €1 billion per year. Innovation is fundamental to the company’s success and the R&D department lies at the heart of this. The business has a dedicated research & development department encompassing several different disciplines: material science, physical and chemical processing and analytical science.

You will be working in a focused and highly collaborative culture, benefiting from the experience of internationally diverse colleagues that you’d expect to find in an expanding, innovative and professional company. To further strengthen the department, they are looking for a self-starter with a strong initiative to fulfil this newly created role.

 

The Role:

As Product Specialist Packaging, you will be responsible for the research & development of innovative product solutions and new chemistries across all fields of packaging applications. This includes functional coatings for heat seal and barrier on paper, film and foil as well as laminating adhesives and board coatings for both corrugated and rigid board. You will make sure all the work is carried out in a safe manner by respecting all regulations, safety precautions and PPE/PDM requirements.

In short, this is a very varied and challenging position combining both product development and real out-of-the-box innovation. You will interact with sales, purchasing and production departments as well as customers, suppliers and other external partners.

 

Candidate Profile:

· At least 5 years of R&D experience and a proven track record of delivering innovation in the field of packaging coatings & adhesives.
· Preferably educated to at least bachelor’s degree level in a scientific discipline (such as material science, chemistry, polymer science, life sciences or related) or have demonstrable experience operating at this level.
· Has first-hand experience in heat seal and barrier coatings, inks and over-print varnishes or laminating adhesives in the packaging industry.
· Hands-on mentality with well-developed laboratory and analytical skills.
· Pragmatic, entrepreneurial, creative and strong in autonomous planning and executing work across various projects and supervising a small development team.
· Understands critical processes, chemistry and structure/property relationships, to deliver effective solutions.
· Demonstrates a proven ability to invent and innovate and is strong in the design and analysis of experiments.
· Addresses material challenges and passionate about improving sustainability. You are able to address the key challenges of product innovation in new application fields and drive technological change towards more robust and sustainable solutions across our portfolio of packaging coatings and adhesives.
