R&D Manager

Report to: Head of R&D Europe

Purpose of the role:

To lead the R&D team in Italy, and to collaborate with the Business Teams to improve the product
portfolio and develop new products. To ensure high level collaboration within company’s regional and global R&D team.

Responsibilities:

· Coordinate and prioritize R&D activities in Italy.
· Provide R&D expertise, guidance, and strategy to develop, optimize, validate, and execute projects.
· Ensure that project targets are achieved, timelines and budgets are respected, and resources (human and material) correctly assigned according to the priorities agreed with the Head of R&D EU and the Business Teams
· Work closely with Business Teams to understand and monitor competitive landscape and customers’ needs.
· Coordinate with Business Teams to define the technical strategy to accomplish agreed targets
· Manage timely pursuance of development projects in coordination with the local team
· Provide support for Global Projects
· Work closely together with corresponding R&D and Business Teams of other regions to fast-track solution finding, rationalize development work and make best possible use of group resources (laboratory capabilities, pilot line etc.)
· Support the Head of R&D EU in defining the Intellectual Property strategy.
· Participate in business development activities.
· In coordination with Technical Service, promotes and pursues cooperation with customers, suppliers of conversion machines and inks and other external partners.
· Support team members in designing new products including selection and approval of suitable raw materials in close alignment with the plant and the whole R&D team, considering safety and regulatory concerns.
· Organize and ensure appropriate documentation of trial results in close alignment with the methods established by the local R&D team.
· Take the lead in following the development of competitor technologies and securing the protection of company intellectual property.
· Provide European stakeholders with strategic regulatory and R&D policy perspectives.
· Support the Head of R&D EU and the BT Heads in selecting strategic targets, establishing priorities, and developing and executing projects.
· Collaborate closely with company’s internal entities (for example, additive and compound supplier (Edhaf) with regards to qualifying, improving, and developing products, ensuring that the company has the most technically and economically competitive solutions available.
· Together with Head of R&D EU and other local R&D Managers define and approve relevant R&D documentation and procedures.
· Provide dedicated training to others involved with the company organisation.
· Undertake to respect and implement the Quality Policy when pursuing and meeting the objectives defined by the company.
· Collaborate and undertake to maintain the standards linked to the Integrated Management Systems and to raise awareness of them among colleagues.
· Hold the role of “Safety Manager”, overseeing and coordinating employees’ activities pursuant to the provisions required of the role in (Italian) Legislative Decree no. 81/2008
· In order to ensure flexibility in the workplace, this employee may carry out other activities, if requested by superiors and following appropriate training and/or instructions
· Allocate and manage local R&D budget.

External: Customers, suppliers of raw materials and machinery, trade organisations, universities, consultants
