The Company:

Listgrove’s client is a biotech company that specializes in the research, development and production of bio-based and renewable chemicals derived from biomass.
The company provides sustainable alternatives to traditional petrochemical-based chemistry in the form of bio-based compounds and derivatives to be used in a variety of applications for different industries including industrial cleaning, agrochemicals, personal and home care, paint & coating and cosmetics, among others.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Highly driven, autonomous, single contributor with an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Experience of managing Tier1 customers and distributors accounts.
  • Significant business development track record, particularly with new product introduction.
  • Knowledge of specialty chemicals market in CASE for the first candidate and in HI&I and Personal Care for the second candidate.
  • Sensitivity to sustainability and interest in bio-sourced chemical solutions.

Position Profile:

The key deliverable for the Business Development Manager will be to grow the market for the products with targeted customers and distributors in the region.

To achieve this the BDM will:

  • Analyse the addressable market for various applications
  • Collaborate with the Chief Commercial Officer and Technical Application Manager to devise the best market entry strategy.
  • Generate and manage leads and a pipeline of opportunities.
  • Engage customers and partners at senior level to demonstrate sustainable vision and key differentiators.
  • Identify the right value proposition, develop a business case and support the customer project throughout its lifecycle.
  • Close deals and manage the ongoing relationship with the customer.
  • Contribute to revenue growth in the region.

Responsibilities:

  • Through market insight and research, clearly identify and prioritize growth opportunities for and formalise a business development plan based on targeted applications, customers and geographies.
  • Relentlessly execute against this plan, developing relationships, generating leads and actively engaging all relevant parties in the market to advance position.
  • Working closely with technical application manager, drive qualification projects with customers, support formulation co-development efforts and provide relevant business cases.
  • Engage and enrol selected distributors to seize market opportunities which are better accessed through the channel, producing the required material to support their efforts.
  • Negotiate, price and close commercial agreements with customers and distributors.
  • Report through relevant tools on opportunity and project progress and provide sales forecasts to the Chief Commercial Officer.
  • Seize relevant opportunities (press visibility, exhibitions, conferences, social media, etc) to evangelize, inform and educate the market and the public on the companies vision of sustainable industries.

Competences:

  • Familiarity with specialty chemical for applications preferably in home care, institutional & industrial cleaning.
  • 5-10 years of work experience in business development or sales & marketing roles opening and developing clients in international environments.
  • Experience of new product introduction.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Strong chemical engineering culture.
  • Ideally, exposure to fluid, fast paced, entrepreneurial environments.
