The Company:
A leading manufacturer of plastic and rubber materials, from high performance engineered resins, to recycled post-consumer materials, currently going through a period of substantial growth.
Purpose of Role:
This role adds value by ensuring that the plant operates safely, without harm to the environment and is compliant with all Safety, Health and Environmental laws. The incumbent will Identify performance and compliance gaps and define and execute improvements either directly or through expert resources.
Key Responsibilities and Expectations:
· Establishes a meaningful set of metrics that measure plant safety and environmental performance to identify performance issues and opportunities.
· Understands applicable UK legal requirements and obtains additional expert interpretation as needed.
· Uses risk management methods to prioritise gaps and opportunities, into an actionable improvement plan.
· Uses own and others’ expertise to define solutions and improvement initiatives.
· Ensures an adequate level of knowledge in safety, health and environmental matters for self and other team members. Defines or procures training programmes to close identified gaps.
· Owns the plant housekeeping programme, ensuring an excellent level of performance.
· Works with external providers, to define an appropriate employee health screening programme.
· Co-owns and updates key safety, health and environmental management documents and processes, including the Emergency Plan, environmental compliance plan, PPE matrix, safe work permitting.
· Defines an environmental improvement programme appropriate to the plastics processing industry.
Skills and Qualifications:
· NEBOSH or similar health and safety qualification.
· Experience of ISO9001 and ISO14001.
· Familiar with Wamitab and ideally have experience within the plastic, waste or recycling industry.
· Proven competence in risk assessment and risk management in a manufacturing environment.
· A pragmatic and practical approach to problem solving, and the ability to prioritise multiple diverse opportunities into a deliverable action plan are essential
· Able to work effectively in a fast-paced and diverse team environment
· The ability to coach and train other team members is highly desirable
