Polymer Processing Apprenticeship

The Manufacturing Technician Apprentice will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become a competent Polymer Processing Technician, in line with the Skills England Polymer Processing Technician Level 3 apprenticeship standard.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to begin a career within polymer processing and automotive manufacturing. As a Manufacturing Technician Apprentice, you will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become a competent Polymer Processing Technician while completing a Level 3 apprenticeship programme delivered by the S&A Academy.

The S&A Academy is a specialist apprenticeship training provider focused on delivering high-quality technical and professional training, supporting apprentices throughout their learning journey with structured development, industry-relevant knowledge, and ongoing mentorship.

The purpose of the role is to support the manufacture of polymer-based automotive components to agreed quality, safety, cost and delivery standards. The apprentice will learn how to prepare materials, set up and operate polymer processing equipment, monitor and control production processes, and carry out quality checks, while working safely and sustainably within a manufacturing environment.

Personal Specification

Essential

GCSEs (or predicted) in English and Mathematics, or commitment to achieving them during the apprenticeship (in line with apprenticeship funding rules).
Interest in manufacturing, engineering or polymer processing.
Willingness to undertake a 36-month Level 3 apprenticeship including off-the-job training.
Basic numeracy and literacy skills suitable for recording data and following work instructions.
Ability to work safely, follow procedures and take instruction.
Strong work ethic, reliability and willingness to learn.

Desirable

GCSE in Science, Engineering or Technology-related subject.
Previous exposure to a manufacturing or technical environment (e.g. work experience, college course).
Interest in automotive manufacturing or polymer-based products.
Personal Attributes

Good attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Practical and hands-on approach to work.
Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively.
Positive attitude, adaptability and openness to feedback.
Awareness of health, safety and environmental responsibility

Hours of Work

08:30 – 17:00 Monday to Thursday
08:30 – 16:00 Friday
39 hours per week (30-minute lunch)
